OVERVIEWS

THE HUBERT KAIRUKI MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY (HKMU)

Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU) was established in 1997, being among the first private universities to be accredited in Tanzania in the year 2000, it has since then received local, regional and international recognition.

It was the idea of Prof Hubert C.M Kairuki and his wife Mrs Kokushubira Kairuki to establish the University, moved by the situation in Tanzania after independence in 1961, whereby diseases, poverty and ignorance were declared the country’s key enemies.

Initially HKMU University was established as Mikocheni International University of Health Sciences (MIUHS), with a focus towards addressing training needs for health professionals in Tanzania, and in sub-Saharan Africa.

In 1998 the name was changed  to Mikocheni International University, anticipating the possibility of expanding beyond health sciences. Finally in February 1999 the University’s name was changed to Hubert Kairuki Memorial University, in the honour of the founder, Prof Hubert Kairuki, after he passed away.

The University is expanding into other programs and disciplines of science and humanities. Recent established training programs include; Master of Social Work, Master of Science in Public Health, Research and Development in Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms.

HKMU is growing to a level where it is becoming the pride of private Universities in the East African region due to the quality and excellence of its programs. Currently the University has attracted students from over 15 different nationalities, external funding and technical support for collaborative research and development activities.

 

The Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU) is guided by the following terminologies which are :-

 

VISION

To become a model private University in Tanzania and Africa in providing highest quality education, research and exemplary service to public with conducive learning and working environment.

 

MISSION

To educate liberally and broadly, qualify men and women to advance frontiers of knowledge through research, and provide consultancy and advisory services to the public.

 

Functions of the University are :-

• To produce ethically-minded scientists and professionals of integrity, devotion and commitment
• To provide an environment for learning, teaching and research in health sciences
• To prepare students through professional courses in the fields of health and allied health sciences for degrees, diplomas, certificates and other awards
• To contribute to the intellectual life of the Tanzanian Society
• To be a catalyst in the health sector reforms through conducting relevant research and educating the public on health-related issues
• To engage in commercial and other income-generating activities, in line with the national laws, the HKMU Charter and rules.

Hubert Kairuki Memorial University ,HKMU acts as best Educational Institutions of Providing Certificates ,Diploma ,Degree  ,Masters and Postgraduate Studies for Students.The HKMU is open window for Admissions in each year and Applicants are allowed to Submit their Applications Online in time .Below are the Programmes courses ,Fee Structures ,Entry requirement and how to Apply for Both Undergraduate courses and Postgraduate courses .

 

A) UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS

For the Certificate ,Diploma and Degree courses the Applicant is given Online portal which will enable the Applicants to request Admissions Online . below are the Undergraduate courses and how Applicants can Apply for :-

I)Undergraduate courses offered

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Bachelor of Social Work
• Certificate and Diploma in Social Work
• Diploma in Nursing – Pre service
• Diploma in Nursing – in service

II) How to Apply for the Undergraduate programmes at Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU) ???

APPLICATION PROCEDURES AND INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1:  Read Admission Criteria

Before starting registration/application, read minimum admission requirements.

Step 2:  Create Account (Signup Form)

Fill in the required information and create your account. Upon creating your account you will be given a CODE NUMBER (invoice number) for your application fee payment.

NOTE:  Application fee is required on submission of your application. All payment should be done through TIGO Pesa, M-Pesa, Airtel Money OR Direct to CRDB Bank and use your given CODE NUMBER to pay TSH 50,000/= as an Application Fee. Payment verification should not be skipped. Skipping that step, you will not be able to continue to the next steps. After payment, please go back to OSIM on step 3 & 4 to complete your application.

Step 3:  Log In

Use your Email Address and password created during step 2, then click sign in button to login and continue with your application.   

Step 4:  Internal Steps After Log In

After Login continue with internal steps and procedures to complete and submit your application.

 B) POSTGRADUATE ADMISSIONS

The University have Doctorate studies and Master as best programmes for the Postgraduate Studies for Students and Always each year open window for Postgraduate Studies and University have Online Applications portal for All Applicant Applications .Before University first Applicant must know the programmes offered ,Entry requirement ,Fee structure and other below are :-

I)Postgraduate courses offered

• Doctor of Medicine
• Master of Medicine
• Master of Science in Public Health
