THE UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM (UDSM)
The University of Dar es Salaam is the oldest and biggest public university in Tanzania. It is situated on the western side of the city of Dar es Salaam, occupying 1,625 acres on the observation hill, 13 kilometers from the city centre. It was established on 1st July 1970, through parliament act no. 12 of 1970 and all the enabling legal instruments of the constituent colleges.

THE UNIVERSITY OF DODOMA (UDOM)
Dodoma City is located in the centre of the country (6°10’23’’S; 35°44’31’’E), 455 km west of the former capital, Dar es Salaam; and 441 km south of Arusha City, the cradle of the East African Community. It is also 259 km north of Iringa Municipality through Mtera. The City covers an area of 2,669 km2 of which 625 km2 is urbanised.
Dodoma features a semi-arid climate with relatively warm temperatures throughout the year. Although average maximums are consistent throughout the year, average minimums drop to 13°C in July. The average annual precipitation is 570 mm, most of which occurs during the wet season between November and April, with the remainder of the year comprising dry season.

THE OPENING UNIVERSITY OF TANZANIA (OUT)
The Open University of Tanzania (OUT) is a fully fledged, autonomous and accredited public University, established by an Act of Parliament Number 17 of 1992. The Act became operational on 1st March 1993 by the publication of Government Notice No. 55 in the Official Gazette. The first Chancellor was officially installed in a full ceremony on 19th January 1994 and the first batch of students was admitted in January 1994. In January 2007, following enactment of the Universities Act No. 7 of 2005, OUT started using the OUT Charter and Rules (2007) for its operations.
The Open University of Tanzania offers its certificate, diploma, degree and postgraduate courses through the open and distance learning system which includes various means of communication such as face-to-face, broadcasting, telecasting, correspondence, seminars, e-learning as well as a blended mode which is a combination of two or more means of communication. The OUT’s academic programmes are quality-assured and centrally regulated by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).

THE INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTANT ARUSHA (IAA)
The Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) is a parastatal educational institution under the Ministry of Finance and Planning originally established in 1987 to offer training for candidates aspiring to acquire National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) certification.
In 1990 the Parliament of the Republic of Tanzania under Act No. 1 of 1990 established the Institute of Accountancy Arusha to offer programs independent of NBAA certification.

THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF ZANZIBAR (SUZA)
The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) was established by Act No. 8 of 1999 of the Zanzibar House of Representatives which was then amended by Act No. 11 of 2009, and further re-amended by Act No. 7 of 2016. The latter amendment has justified SUZA to merge with other Zanzibar higher learning institutions; these are the then Zanzibar Institute of Financial Administration (ZIFA), College of Health Sciences (CHS) and the Zanzibar Institute of Tourism Development (ZIToD). His Excellency Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein, the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council is the Chancellor of the University. The University became operational in September 2001.

Mzumbe University was established by the Mzumbe University Charter, 2007 under Section 25 of the Universities Act. No. 7 of 2005 which repealed Mzumbe University Act. No 9 of 2001. THE MUHIMBILI UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH AND ALLIED SCIENCES (MUHAS)
The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) started as the Dar es salaam medical school in 1963. The school then transformed into the faculty of medicine of the university of Dar es salaam that in 1991 was upgraded and became a college–the Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS).
In 1996, the Faculty of Medicine that was upgraded to a constituent College of the University of Dar es Salaam, with the aim of nurturing it to a full-fledged university later on was merged with the Muhimbili hospital to create the Muhimbili Medical Centre (MMC).
Over the years MUCHS made significant achievements in terms of increased student enrollment and development of several new academic programmes. The Parliament Act No 9 of 1991 that established MUCHS was repealed in 2005 through the universities Act no 7 of 2005.Subsequently, in 2007Article 1 of the Charter of Incorporation established MUHAS; in line with the Universities act no 7 of 2005.

THE NELSON MANDELA AFRICAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (NM-AIST)
The institution is designed to rest on four structural pillars, namely: schools, departments and research chairs for teaching and learning, and research and innovations; and an ICT Resource Centre to ensure efficiency of internal operations and easy connection to the international community to facilitate tapping into the wealth of knowledge and expertise at global level. Two other structural pillars are being developed, namely: an ECO Park to facilitate harnessing of the immense bio-diversity of plants, animals and microbes, starting with a medicinal research garden at the start-up Tengeru campus; and technology-cum-business incubators to stimulate and catalyze the development and growth of the local industry. THE MOSHI CO-OPERATIVE UNIVERSITY (MoCU)
The history of the Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU) dates way back to 5th January 1963 when the then Co-operative College Moshi was established. The College’s primary responsibility was training of human resource in the co-operative sector under the then Ministry of Co-operatives and Community Development. The College was subsequently established through the Co-operative College Act No. 32 (Repealed) of 1964 as an autonomous institution with its own Governing Board.
In 2004, the Co-operative College Moshi was transformed into MUCCoBS as the Constituent University College of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) through the Government Notice No. 172 of 2004. MoCU came into being as a result of transforming MUCCoBS to a full-fledged University in September, 2014. The University is governed by its own Charter, made under the Universities Act No. 7 of 2005. It was accredited by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) on 7th November, 2018.

THE HUBERT KAIRUKI MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY (HKMU)
Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU) was established in 1997, being among the first private universities to be accredited in Tanzania in the year 2000, it has since then received local, regional and international recognition.
It was the idea of Prof Hubert C.M Kairuki and his wife Mrs Kokushubira Kairuki to establish the University, moved by the situation in Tanzania after independence in 1961, whereby diseases, poverty and ignorance were declared the country’s key enemies.
Initially HKMU University was established as Mikocheni International University of Health Sciences (MIUHS), with a focus towards addressing training needs for health professionals in Tanzania, and in sub-Saharan Africa.
In 1998 the name was changed to Mikocheni International University, anticipating the possibility of expanding beyond health sciences. Finally in February 1999 the University’s name was changed to Hubert Kairuki Memorial University, in the honour of the founder, Prof Hubert Kairuki, after he passed away.

THE ST.AUGUSTINE UNIVERSITY OF TANZANIA (SAUT)
St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) was established in 1998. It is the successor of the Nyegezi Social Training Institute (NSTI) founded in 1960 by the Catholic White Fathers (currently known as the Missionaries of Africa). This was under the initiative of Bishop Joseph Blomjous of the Mwanza Diocese.
The University extends to over 600 acres in the Nyegezi- Malimbe area 10 km south of Mwanza City. It lies 4 km off the Mwanza- Shinyanga road on the shores of Lake Victoria. As part of Tanzania’s central highlands (1140 m above the sea level), the area to the south of Lake Victoria is noted for its moderate temperatures. THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH AND ALLIED SCIENCES (CUHAS)
CUHAS-Bugando, as a Constituent University College of SAUT, became operational in September 2003. It was granted a Certificate of Interim Authority (CIA) on the 28th March 2002 and a Certificate of Provisional Registration (CPR) on 27th March 2003. By 2005 the College was firmly established and accorded full registration status by the Tanzania Commission of Universities (TCU). The Commission at its 53rd meetingapproved a request from SAUT to transform the College to a full-fledged university and granted CUHAS-Bugando a Certificate of Full Registration.
At its inception it was envisaged that it would be organized in faculties, institutes and directorates. In 2009/2010 it decided to go into a school mode and therefore established four schools: The Weill Bugando School of Medicine (which replaces the Faculty of Medicine), A School of Pharmacy, the Archbishop Anthony Mayala School of Nursing, and a School of Public Health. THE DAR ES SALAAM UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (DUCE)
The Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) is a public institution established in 2005 through the Government Notice No. 202 published on 22nd July 2005. The establishment of the College was a priority response by the Government of Tanzania to address the problem of acute shortage of graduate teachers and experts in the education sector that had resulted from the rapid expansion of school enrolment. The expansion was due to the successes of the Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP) in 2002 – 2006 and the Secondary Education Development Programme (SEDP I) in 2004 – 2009, among other initiatives.
The College is located on Plot 324 and 325 Block ‘T’ Chang’ombe in Temeke Municipality, Dar es Salaam Region, adjacent to the new National Stadium and about 5 km from the City Centre via Kilwa Road. The College consists of 52.97 acres of land. The College also owns an area of 1.17 hectares located on Plot No. 964/1 Block ‘V’ Mbagala. The The Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy (MNMA) is a higher learning institution originating from the Kivukoni College, established on 29th July 1961. THE KAMPALA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY DAR ES SALAAM COLLEGE (KIU-DAR)
The Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) was established in Tanzania in 2008 as a Dar es Salaam Constituent College of Kampala International University in Uganda. It was then known as Dar es Salaam Constituent College affiliated to the Kampala International University (KIU-DCC). The main goal of the college was to run academic and professional courses offered by Kampala International University (KIU) through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode of course delivery.
KIU-DCC’s initial main office location address was at the 8th Floor of Posta House Building along the Uganda/Ohio street junction in the Dar es Salaam metropolis, opposite the then offices of the Higher Education Accreditation Council (HEAC) that later changed to the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU). In November 2009, the College main office was relocated to the Quality Plaza Building along the current Julius K. Nyerere Road. The growth in student numbers, in 2010, reflected in the number of applications received for admission, forced the college leadership to search for a new permanent location that would facilitate the offer of university education through both ODL and residential modes of course delivery. This move was, in part, the effort of the then leadership of KIU-DCC to respond to social demand, particularly by Tanzanian youth, for more places to pursue Higher Learning studies. Ultimately, the college leadership managed to acquire, from the Hon. Kate Kamba’s family, a 148 acre piece of land in the Gongo la Mboto Village, in Ilala District, still in the Dar es Salaam Region.

Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College is situated 4 kilometers north of Moshi Municipality on the slopes of the snowcapped Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania.
In the early 1960s, the government of the then Tanganyika called upon the Christian Churches in the country to establish a referral and teaching hospital for the Northern Zone. Under the leadership of the Lutheran Church, Anglican and Moravian Churches in Tanganyika established the Good Samaritan Foundation (GSF) which planned and raised money from both local and overseas partners to build and equip the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) for service, teaching, and research.

Saint Francis University College of Health and Allied Sciences (SFUCHAS) was established by the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) based on the need of the Catholic Church to contribute to the training of more doctors and other Health Professionals in Tanzania in the face of inadequacy of qualified personnel in Health sector, critically in the marginalized settings of Tanzania.
SFUCHAS is the second Medical School owned by the Catholic Bishops of Tanzania after the Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS), in Mwanza. Uniquely, SFUCHAS is the first medical University College to be established in a rural setting in Tanzania.
SFUCHAS was issued with a Certificate of Provisional Registration by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) on 2nd November 2010 and It was officially inaugurated by Hon. THE STEFANO MOSHI MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY COLLEGE (SMMUCO)
Stefano Moshi Memorial University College (SMMUCo) is one of the Constituent Colleges of Tumaini University Makumira. The University College inherited the buildings of Masoka Management Training Institute, an institute established by the ELCT Northern Diocese in 1991, to train personnel for the Church and the nation, and taught programs leading to Certificates, Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas.
SMMUCo is a Christ-centered institution owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT), Northern Diocese. THE TUMAINI UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM COLLEGE (TUDARCO)
Tumaini University Dar es Salaam College (TUDARCo) is a constituent college of the Tumaini University Makumira (TUMA) and is owned by Eastern and Coastal Diocese of of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT). TUMA is located at Usa River (Makumira) near Arusha. Currently the TUMA consists of three constituent Colleges, namely: Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMUCo), in Moshi; Tumaini University Dar es Salaam College (TUDARCo), in Dar es Salaam; and Stefano Moshi Memorial University College (SMMUCo), in Moshi.
The origins of TUDARCo are embedded in the then Waldorf College Tanzania (WCT), established in 1997 as a branch and later a mission of Waldorf College, Forest City in Iowa, USA. The Waldorf College of Tanzania (WCT) was established by the Waldorf College, Iowa Forest Hill of the United States of America. In 2001, the Waldorf College Council decided to close her operations in Tanzania and the College was handed over to the Eastern and Coastal Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ECD-ELCT). The Waldorf College of Tanzania then joined the Tumaini University family and changed the name to Tumaini University Dar-es-Salaam College (TUDARCo). As a result, TUDARCo was born from WCT on 1st April 2003 as a constituent College of Tumaini University, joining Makumira, KCM and Iringa University College which existed during that time.

THE AL-MAKTOUM COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
Al- Maktoum College of Engineering and Technology (AMCET) began its operations in January 2010, whereby short courses in Computer studies were offered, and by July 2010, Basic Technician Certificate in Information Technology by then provisionally registered with NACTE, commenced.
Currently AMCET provides one year Basic Technician Certificate and two years Ordinary Diploma courses in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering and Information System and Network Technology.
