GENERAL OVERVIEWS

Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA) is a successor of the Dar es Salaam School of Accountancy (DSA) that was established in January 1973 as a Government Training Centre by a special decree of the Minister for Finance. Its initial objective was to conduct both short-term and long-term courses for lower and middle level Government Accounting Personnel in order to improve their work performance. The Institute was established on 1st July 2002 as a Government Executive Agency under the Ministry of Finance in accordance with the TANZANIA INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTANCY (ESTABLISHMENT) Order, G.N.No 489 of 2002, to take over the operations of the then Dar es Salaam School of Accountancy (DSA). This came as a result of Public Service Reforms Programme. Due to the ongoing significant changes, the Institute is operating as per TANZANIA INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTANCY (Establishment) Amendment Order, 2020.

 

TIA is among the highly reputable training institutions in the country established to primarily develop and promote competency in the business related disciplines through the use of Competency Based Education Training (CBET) curriculum, focusing on the demanding global changes. The academic programmes are especially geared towards offering a broad range of academic knowledge and intellectual skills in the areas of accounting, procurement and logistics management, business administration, human resource IT based management, public sector accounting and finance, marketing and public relations, project planning and management, financial management and other business related fields.

In the process of offering quality training, TIA conducts intensive research, consultancy, and short courses, and further promotes a culture of scholarly publications. The Institute contributes to the social, economical and intellectual development of the communities beyond the campuses.

PROGRAMMES COURSES OFFERED AT TANZANIA INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTANCY ,TIA

Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA) is one of the Technical Institutions in Tanzania and a Government Executive Agency under the Ministry of Finance and Planning that was established on 1st July 2002 by the Government Notice No. 489 of 1st November 2002 and officially launched on 24th January 2003 as per Act No. 30 of 1997 to provide education and conduct Research & Consultancy in the fields of Accountancy, Procurement and Logistics Management, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Marketing & Public Relations, Public Sector Accounting & Finance and other business related disciplines. The Institute is accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Technical Education (NACTVET) and its programmes are recognized by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA), and the Procurement and Supplies Professionals and Technicians Board (PSPTB) for exemption in professional examinations. TIA has Six Campuses strategically located in Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, Singida, Mtwara, Mwanza and Kigoma to be close to its customers countrywide. The Dar es Salaam Campus serves as the Institute´s headquarters.

TIA ADMISSIONS FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/24

Tanzania Institute of Accountancy Offers various courses at the levels of Basic Technician Certificates, Diploma, Bachelor degree Programmes in Accountancy, Procurement and Logistics Management, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Public Relations and Public Sector Accounting and Finance. Also the Institute offers Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy, Procurement and Logistics Management, Business Administration, Project planning and Management and Financial Management.

At all levels, delivery modes are under full time and evening basis, this aims at taking care of government sponsored, private sponsored and self-employed students. Apart from offering long term programmes, the Institute offers short courses in its various specializations.

Institute’s programs offer a unique blend of theoretical classroom training and real life experiences. TIA programs are designed to address the competence needs of students during and after graduating studies.

Course duration is one (1) year for Basic Technician Certificate programmes, two (2) years for Diploma Programmes, Three years (3) for Bachelor Degree programmes and one year (1) for its postgraduate Diploma Programmes.

Basic Technician Certificate and Diploma Programmes are offered under March intake and September intake   windows while Degree Programmes and Post Graduate Programmes are offered under September intake window.
