THE UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM (UDSM) 

The University of Dar es Salaam is the oldest and biggest public university in Tanzania. It is situated on the western side of the city of Dar es Salaam, occupying 1,625 acres on the observation hill, 13 kilometers from the city centre. It was established on 1st July 1970, through parliament act no. 12 of 1970 and all the enabling legal instruments of the constituent colleges.

THE UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM ,UDSM ADMISSION 2023/24

A) UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION

The University of Dar es Salaam stands as the most prestigious University in Tanzania. It is a comprehensive University that caters for the entire East and Southern African region, offering a wide range of academic disciplines at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The University of Dar es Salaam is home to most qualified and internationally acknowledged scholars in Africa. By this announcement, applications are now open to qualified candidates from Tanzania, the East and Southern African region and beyond, who wish to pursue undergraduate degree programmes for the academic year 2018/2019.

The University of Dar es salaam (UDSM) offers various academic programmes leading to the award of certificates, diplomas, and degrees. A total of 88 Undergraduate Degree Programmes are offered at various academic units of the University.  You may download the UDSM Admission Procedures Guidebook from Entry Requirements for information about all programmes and their requirements.

II) UDSM UNDERGRADUATE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Candidates wishing to be enrolled at the University of Dar es Salaam to pursue the various undergraduate degree and non-degree programmes have to fulfil the general minimum entrance requirements as well as the additional entrance requirements specific to each academic programme. Candidates applying for programmes under the IUCEA Students’ Exchange Programme must fulfil the entrance qualifications for similar programmes at the University of Dar es Salaam in addition to meeting the requirements of the admitting University whose decision shall be final. III) UDSM UNDERGRADUATE FEE STRUCTURE

At the beginning of the academic year, all students will be required to produce evidence of sponsorship by the Government or any other organizations, otherwise they will be expected to pay full tuition and University fees (or the portion not covered by the sponsor) by the beginning of the term OR semester before they can be permitted to use the University facilities. All local payments for fees should be by Bankers Cheques payable to the Bursar, University of Dar es Salaam or by other acceptable modes with approval of the Bursar. All payments must be receipted. B) POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION

The Directorate of Post Graduate Studies (DPGS) formally replaced the School of Graduate Studies (DPGS) in 2009. The former School was established in 2006, with the main functions as administering and coordinating postgraduate studies at the University of the Dar es Salaam (UDSM). In the past twenty years the postgraduate students’ population increased from about 100 in 1993/1994 to more than 5, 000 in 2018/019. During the same period, postgraduate programmes increased from 48 to over 150.

In view of the rapid expansion of postgraduate programmes, coupled with the University restructuring programme, the UDSM Council at its 69th meeting approved the re-establishment of the Directorate of Post Graduate Studies (DPGS) and subsequently de-established the School of graduate Studies (SGS). The DPGS has taken over all the functions of the SGS but with more responsibilities including providing the requisite environment for postgraduate studies and activities. Higher Degrees Doctor of Laws (LL.D.), Doctor of Literature (D.Lit.) and Doctor of Science (D.Sc.).

At least a Bachelors Degree, Advanced Diploma or its equivalent from a recognized institution of higher learning. Candidates with equivalent qualifications must also possess at least Secondary School Certificates with credit passes.

C) How to Apply for Undergraduate of Postgraduate courses at the University of Dar es Salaam, UDSM ???

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) stands out as the most prestigious University of choice in Tanzania. Undergraduate applicants with foreign certificates are required to first present their certificates to the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) at: www.necta.go.tz. NECTA will issue them letters showing equivalence numbers and grades. Applicants with equivalent entry qualifications (e.g. holders of diplomas and certificates) are advised to obtain an award verification number (AVN) from the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) at www.nacte.go.tz.
